I’m a life-long, self-taught fisherman. My
obsession with fishing began as a small child when
we would drive over a bridge and I could see the
fishermen below on the water. As soon as I was
able to toddle, I was out the door and across the
road to the river. When my mother realized I
was gone she called 911 and told them, “I know he’s
headed toward the river.” The search party
found me in a cornfield just short of the river bank
and nearly two miles from home. I won my first
trout tournament on a spinning rod when I was six
years old. By first grade I was already
out-fishing my father. My elementary years
were spent hopping fences at farm ponds with my
brother David to catch bass and catfish. By
high school my brother and I had our first bass
boat. From then on it was a trek across the
Midwest fishing every body of water around from the
Brainerd Lake area in Minnesota to Colorado to the
Missouri River and every lake in between.
